Alex Pepper (Project Co-ordinator Thomas Pocklington Trust) has kindly forwarded the following information to be circulated to Sutton Vision members.
Croydon Vision, the Wandle Trust and Wandle Park are teaming up to run an open day for blind and visually impaired people, across the Croydon, Merton and Sutton boroughs. This event is being supported by Santander, who will be providing volunteers to assist with sighted guiding and the planned activities. The event will take place on Wednesday 28th June 10.30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.
This event will be part of National rivers week. The programme for the day will include the following:
Welcome and short talk by Andrew Dickinson from the Wandle Park about the history of the park and the rejuvenation of the river Wandle. An opportunity to go pond dipping, led by David Gill from the Wandle Trust, with support from the Santander volunteers. A picnic lunch and a short talk form David Gill about the river Wandle and its wildlife.
In the afternoon there will be an opportunity to do some river work and conservation, this will include a litter pick and an opportunity to put on waders and wellies and get into the river. There will also be tea and cake to finish the day. This is an opportunity for you to be as hands on as you want to or just enjoy sitting on the bank of the river and enjoying the surroundings of Wandle Park.
If you would like to join the group you would need to meet at the park which is situated right next to Wandle Park Tram Stop. It can be arranged for a volunteer to meet you at the Tram Stop or local station if requested.
